Summary of Thesis

The most common type of Non-Hodgkins lymphoma is diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) which accounts for about 30% to 40% of adult NHL cases.(1) DLBCL is a clinically biologically and molecularly heterogeneous disease entity. Two molecularly distinct types of DLBCL with gene expression patterns indicative of various stages of B-cell development were discovered by gene expression profiling in 2000.(2) These were Germinal Center B-cell like DLBCL (GCB) subtype with a gene expression pattern characteristic of normal germinal center B-cells and Non-Germinal Center like DLBCL (non-GCB) subtype with a gene expression pattern characteristic of in vitro activated peripheral blood B-cells.
