FACTEURS EXPLICATIFS DU TRAVAIL DES ENFANTS DANS LES PLANTATIONS DU VILLAGE DE TCHECOU A MBATTO (REPUBLIQUE DE LA COTE DIVOIRE)

Child labor is a phenomenon observed in several developing countries, particularly in Africa. This research was conducted to analyze the explanatory factors of child labor on plantations in the village of Tchecou.To achieve this objective, data were collected from a sample of 51 children and 31 heads of households, with whom research was conducted through questions and interviews. The main results present several explanatory factors at the sociocultural and socioeconomic levels. First, these are determinants related to the weight of tradition, non-compliance with laws or the social perception of stakeholders in the field, the sustainability of families and plantations, and ignorance of the laws. Second, at the socioeconomic level, the economic income of stakeholders, the high cost of schooling, and the cost of sharecropping emerge as determining factors. Finally, the research highlights that the perception of child labor as an income-generating activity and a means of educating children is the overriding factor explaining the phenomenon in the Tchecou plantations.
