A study was conducted to ascertain the allelopathic effect of leaf extracts of three medicinal plants ? Anamirtacocculus, Andrographispaniculata and Helicteresisora on seed germination of Vignaradiata. Aqueous leaf extracts of these plants were prepared and sterilized, healthy green gram seeds were allowed to germinate in these extracts in lab conditions along with a control. Enumerations were done after 24 and 48 hours. The data were recorded for statistical analysis. From the study it was observed that Andrographispaniculata leaf extract showed maximum negativeallelopathic effect and Helicteresisora showed minimum effect. Anamirtacocculus leaf extract was moderate in providing inhibitory effect. The study was a useful prelude for similar research in this field and also to the farmers cultivating green gram.
