In view of lack of literature data on the constituents of medicinal plants used in Sudanese ethno medicine , the present study was designed to identify the constituents of the fixed oil from roots of Sudanese Maerua pseudopetalosa. This important plant is used traditionally in Sudanese ethno medicine . GC- MS analysis revealed the presence of the following major constituents: oleic acid(24.49%),9,12-octadecadienoic methyl ester((10.64%),9-octadecenoic acid-1,2,3-propanetriyl ester(9.58%), ?-sitosterol(8.60%), cyclododecyne(6.08%). Beside ?-sitosterol, some sterols were also detected, but as minor constituents. These are : ?-sitosterol acetate(0.15%), cholest-5-en-3-ol-(3?)-propanoate(0.41%),stigmasta-5,22-dien-3-ol acetate(0.78%) and compesterol(0.40%).
